Win ME / NS 7.0 and 6.2 - Connection Refused

Postby Alaska Joe » Sat 27 Jul, 2002 5:57 pm

I began receiving "Connection refused" messages while using NS 7.0 about 5 days ago. I have downloaded and installed a new copy of NS 7.0. I also reinstalled Win ME.

I still get the connection refused notes from NS 7.0 - can't connect to ANY web site. Same is true of NS 6.2. I CAN connect using IE 6.0, and the older NS 4.5. Go figure! I have been running Zone Alarm Pro for a year along with these browsers and have had no problem with access until recently.

Any thoughts on what may be happening? I sure do miss NS 7.0!

My first guess...
Proxy setting

Check with your ISP if there is any Proxy setting required.

Proxy setting - YES!

Postby Guest » Sat 27 Jul, 2002 10:59 pm

I went into the advanced features in Preferences and deleted the proxy setting that was there. And it WORKED! The setting - I believe - was for a demo copy of Ad Subtract that I was trying. It all comes together now. The trial period ended about the time I began having problems with NS 7.0.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

Considering the hell I have been in last wee, I would have looked at a Firewall, or , specifically, Zone Alarm in my case. Except thjat it was not picking on Netscape.

Fulvio,
Shall we create some sort of DIY problem solving procedures?
