Mozilla Suite Not Getting a Push

Postby DiscoFever » Fri 31 Dec, 2004 7:51 pm

It seems as if the days of the Mozilla Suite are Numbered. All you hear about is Firefox. Firefox is OK, but I like having a "All in One" browser (with mail built in). Firefox and Thunderbird should really be together as one application. You can't find any "new" themes for the Suite, but there are new firefox themes sprouting up all the time. I guess it will be Phase out eventually....Shout out to Fulvio... Happy new year Everyone.

I agree, all signs point toward the Suite becoming the ugly sister. I made the switch many months ago and I can say, I think you'll get accustomed to it. In fact I remember when Netscape combined these two separate apps into one (was that Communicator 3?), thinking at the time "now there's a silly thing to do."

I beg your pardon? I like Moz1.7.5. As for themes, how many do you want? I never tried a Firefox theme, and the skypilot theme is all I need in Mozilla.
Happy New Year to all.

I know about 25 Mozilla themes, 101 Firefox Themes and 15 Thunderbird themes. Mozilla won't be doomed for, it it was Firefox would die. The Fox community needs Mozilla!

There are users, like myself, who use the Mozilla Suite. 1.8 is already in beta. I don't believe the Suite will be discontinued.

Is the suite in beta? You must have access on something which is not commonly availaable, like Opera 8.0. I was testing 1.8a6 nightlies, but I gave up when I found that even basic extentions were not compatible with it (same as 1.8a5).
I like the Suite, but I don't understand what they are doing with 1.8a.x. Any information is appreciated.

My mistake.

I equated the nightlies with betas, sorry...

It's pretty much official now. See Asa's blog, especially his first comment on February 13. (Seamonkey is the MoFo codename for the Suite, in case you didn't...)

I am more disturbed by the replies than by the post itself, which is fairly informative. I find that a segment of the users would prefer to relegate Firefox and Thunderbird to a secondary position, or even consider that the Suite effort is being abandoned.
I, personally, I have noticed that each step takes a lot longer, but Firefox+ Thunderbird can and are developed at the same time as the Mozilla suite.
I like to see attention paid to security, and stability, and not so much to anything else new. And, I think that I see this happening.
I have no special attachment to either the Suite or the individuall applications, or Netscape, which I happen to use now.
