Netscape DevEdge lives on . . . as DevMo

Postby DJGM » Thu 24 Feb, 2005 5:26 pm

The Mozilla Foundation has reached an agreement with AOL/Netscape, and now has the
rights to all former Netscape DevEdge content, and to be able to build and improve on it.

The soon to be relaunched DevEdge site will be rebranded "DevMo". Here's the latest
info courtesy of MozillaZine, and the blog of "Chief Lizard Wrangler", Mitchell Baker:

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050219
SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Excellent! It will be very good to see this valuable developer information be available (and hopefully, updated) once again.

Of course, there still remains a bit of work to be done. Essentially, all the Mozilla Foundation has now are rights to the content itself. It will be a while longer until the information has been sorted out and the new "DevMo" website has gone live.

This just in from MozillaZine:
Mozilla Foundation Opens Temporary Netscape DevEdge Mirror.
MozillaZine wrote:Deb Richardson has announced that a temporary mirror of the old Netscape DevEdge developer content is now online. For many years, DevEdge was a valuable source of Web developer documentation but it was abruptly shut down by America Online in late 2004. After negotiations, AOL gave the Mozilla Foundation a license to use the old DevEdge content. The new Mozilla Foundation mirror of DevEdge can be found at devedge-temp.mozilla.org (start at index_en.html).

It is good to see DevEdge back online for now, even in this temporary state. It was a good resourse for developers and end-users, alike. Hopefully the DevEdge content will soon make its way over to DevMo for general consumption.
