Postby TK19 » Thu 14 Jul, 2005 9:29 am

I'm trying to Install netscape 8 under windows Me under virtual pc 6 on Mac OS 10.3.9. I start up the installer and after it downloads it it says I dont meet the requirements! I have like 16 GBs left on my drive 1, 128 MBs of Ram, and 1Ghz prossesor on my Mac. How does it not meet the requirements????
How can I install NS8!!!! Help!!!

Use Windows 2000 recommended or Windows XP. (Don't use Windows Me)

Next, please follow this guide: HowTo: Speed up your XP to speed up your Windows.

That's right, we don't need those fancy things when running under Virtual PC.

have you tried running Windows Update? You will need MSIE 6 with SP2 I believe.

Did you assign more than 64MB of RAM to guest OS (Windows Me)?, Try assigning 128 MB or 256 MB or RAM to guest OS and 16 MB of video RAM.

And try to close all other applications when running Virtual PC.

That emulated processor in Virtual PC would not be fast enough, it's not detecting it as at least a 233mhz processor. (Unlike the version for Windows, which does not emulate a processor)

An Update: For some reason I was able to install NS7.2, which I think has the same system requitements.....Weird. I Assigned 128mbs of Ram.

Netscape 7.2 isn't restrictive on system requirements like Netscape 8.0.x is. Netscape 8 won't install if you don't meet every system requirement, even if your system is fully cabable of running the software.

If you have problems getting Netscape 8 to install, you could try bypassing the installer entirely. If possible, try installing Netscape 8 on a PC surpassing the software's system 'requirements,' compress the installed Netscape folder and its contents into a ZIP or RAR archive, and somehow copy it across to your Mac. I believe there are ZIP or RAR versions of Netscape 8 people have made floating around the Internet that would save a few steps.

This is how I managed to run Netscape 8 on Windows 95. :D

That does indeed work. That's the method I used to run Netscape 8 on my system with 63 MB RAM.

If your dad's computer is in the same house as yours, try direct link them. email is not a good idea for file transfer. Just my two cents on small issues.
