Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 is running very well so far. It is essentially the same as earlier Mozilla Firefox 1.0.x releases in appearance and general features.

The Windows bug that resulted in multiple entries appearing in "Add or Remove Programs" when overwriting an older Firefox version with a newer one, such as when using Firefox's built-in Update facility, has been fixed with this release. Although installing a new Mozilla-based browser over an older one was formerly generally discouraged, it has apparently been safe to do so with recent Firefox releases.

Ironically, I had installed a new Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 release candidate earlier today. This final release appears to be identical to that final release candidate. So the incompatibilities with extensions and other regressions that had surfaced with earlier release candidates must have been fixed. :)

I"ve had it for some time now. As you can see from my user agent string the build is not as new as yours. Is that something that should concern me?

Only [tt]en-US[/tt] builds appear to be available as of now. By contrast, I recall that [tt]en-GB[/tt] and other international localizations of Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 were available from the outset.

Concerned, no. I have notbeen able to keep up with the the different builds, and http://www.mozillazine.org/ says that is the seventh build. But, since they don't say that it is the final version, and they should know, I am waiting.

I'm very glad that this minor, although annoying, bug has been fixed. :)

James, Was your Firefox 1.0.3 release candidate the fourth release, from the 2005-04-05-17-aviary1.0.1/ download folder (linked from the "another shot at 1.0.3" " April 05, 2005 Windows installer link from Asa's weblog) ??? If so, then that particular version was buggy, in that it broke a lot of extensions.

See:
http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=6418
Testing Wanted for Latest Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 Release Candidates
Friday April 15th, 2005
The fourth set of 1.0.3 release candidate builds also introduced a security change that broke many extensions

In any case, I would go ahead and install the Firefox 1.0.3 final version. It will install right on top of the Firefox 1.0.3 version you have now, with no problems at all. ..... that's what I did.

Yes, indeed, it's the final version...... as hard as it might be to believe ..... :)

Check out http://www.mozilla.org/ - the link to Fiirefox 1.0.3 (as well as Mozilla 1.7.7) is there.
Only final versions are linked from that page.

James, you're welcome :)

Regarding extensions, there's a list that's being maintained on the MozillaZine forums:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=251563
Broken extensions in FF 1.0.3

I only have two Firefox extensions, but wouldn't you know it, one of them was listed in the Fixed / Working list, as needing an uninstall before updating to the fixed version:
User Agent Switcher 0.6.5 (Uninstall previous version first)

So, even though I didn't see anything the matter with my installed User Agent Switcher version 0.6.2 I figured there must be some issue so I uninstalled it (in both profiles) and then downloaded and installed the new User_Agent_Switcher_0.6.5.xpi
