"Program not responding" / slow quick launch

Postby DiscoFever » Sat 25 Feb, 2006 1:20 pm

Lately, when i click on the quick launch toolbar to open a program it either takes forever to open up, or i have to click it a couple of times for it to open. this is for all programs on the quick launch bar. (IE, Opera, Thunderbird and Firefox). Then when a program finally opens when i close it out i get the "Program not responding" Box popping up. When i finally get the program closed i get the ..Do i want to report the error message box popping up. The only thing i recently installed is the McAfee anti virus and firewall program (offered by comcast cable.) Even before this program was installed i was starting to have this problem. I did a defrag, ran virus and trojan programs, whatever i could. I even cleaned the PC fan ( which was suggested on the internet ).. has any one had this problem?...if so please let me know what to do. :)

May be you want to keep the desktop clean, but I use the Quick Launch toolbar for only one program. Otherwise, I use shortcuts on the Desktop.
Have you tried individual shortcuts? I don't think that it should matter, but what do I know? If everything is slowing you down, there must be some bottle neck (Temp files?). Previous antivirus, or antispyware program?
I have had WinXP for two years, and I am finding some perplexing things about it (see my next post)
