50 million Mozilla Firefox downloads

Postby Andrew T. » Fri 29 Apr, 2005 1:54 pm

About three hours ago, the 50,000,000th download of Mozilla Firefox since version 1.0 was released last November was recorded.

A special prize will be given to the "Spread Firefox" affiliate who referred this 50 millionth download.

A page, titled "Firefox: Blazing a Trail to 50,000,000" has been set up devoted to this occasion. It contains a real-time download counter, miscellaneous information, and several interesting articles related to surprising means of Firefox promotion.

All else I can really say is...keep up the good work, Mozilla Firefox! It's been great to see this direct descendant of the Netscape browser receive so much positive attention. Here's to another 50,000,000 downloads!

On a related note, a nifty Mozilla Firefox extension, TickerFox, has been created to keep track of real-time downloads of Mozilla Firefox. The extension's counter sits on the right side Mozilla Firefox's bottom status bar. I'd say it's interesting to see Mozilla Firefox's current download count increase before my eyes with this extension.

MozillaZine calculated that it was 171 days of 1.0's release day at their Mozilla Firefox Downloaded 50,000,000 Times forum posting:

The coverage of this historic event in media and several blogs is very positive according to SpreadFirefox's special page at http://www.spreadfirefox.com/fifty.html#buzz .

It's over 51 million now . . .
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050205
SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
