Mozilla 1.3 Alpha Released . . .

Postby DJGM » Fri 13 Dec, 2002 10:58 pm

Quote from MozillaZine:
MozillaZine wrote:This release introduces shedloads of new Mail & News features (including Bayesian spam classification,
message views and improved filtering), a new Bookmarks Quick Search bar (similar to the one found
in Phoenix) and support for the Back and Forward buttons on the IntelliMouse Explorer.
There's also improvements to the DOM Inspector and lots of other bug fixes.
However, remember that this is only an alpha release, so expect bugs.

It also seems that Mozilla.org has dropped support for Mac OS 8-9.

IMO, that's a very bad move on their part . Very unwise when considering
that most Mac users still haven't upgraded to Mac OS X yet, and Mozilla
needs as many testers as possible, on as many operating systems as
possible. Dropping support for "classic" Mac OS versions 8.5 - 9.x,
is a very stupid and foolhardy thing for Mozilla.org to do.

Although, having said that, if you look here, you'll see that the minimum
requirements for Mozilla 1.3a on Macintosh, include Mac OS 9.1 or later.
If they're dropping support for Mac OS 9.x, they haven't done so yet.

Mozilla for MacOS Classic will be (has been?) moved to ports (a'la BeZilla, Warpzilla, etc).

I installed 1.3a today, and I am totally impressed with how fast pages are rendered. This site is always the slowest to load, at least on my system. Today it came up much faster than with 7.01. Haven't played around with Bookmarks or new Mail Filters, etc., but I'm totally interested in those two features.

I have 7.0, 7.01. and 4.79 installed, and Moz install went smoothly as silk. All I had to do was move the Moz Profile from my Backup folder into the Profiles folder, and it was a done deal.

Wow, I wish Netscape would have waited a while to release 7.01, and used a newer Gecko Engine... :(

Hi Antony,

Not meant as a criticism at all, and probably has more to do with my pathetic connection rate than anything. I am starting to think seriously about either cable or DSL.

Ramona: My dialup connection loads the Sillydog 701 site rather quickly. Very Intresting.

Netscape should have waited for Mozilla 1.2.1 IMHO.

Hi Mandrake,

Today's roaring connection rate is 36,000 bps, and that's fast! Need I say more? :(

1.2.1 sounds good, and I wonder why they used 1.0.2?

Hi Ramona, I have no idea why they used a pre release version of Mozilla 1.02 - as opposed to Mozilla 1.2.1, which has a heap of new features. I didn't realise your connections are that bad. I usually get 49 200 or 50 600 connections .
