seems like there will be an alternative to the green skin that is made by the Netscape developers...

I've noticed something rather interesting while trying to install one of those new themes
on to the beta version of Netscape 8.0. I chose the Fusion theme, which appears to be
a whiteish version of the default blue "Comet" theme which is included with NS8 Beta.

Have a closer look at the error message . . .

I wonder if this means there's a possibility of Netscape version 9.x and 10.x in the future . . . ?

Another thing . . . have a look at the screengrab of the "Winscape" Theme . . .

Image

The search tool next to the Location Bar now appears to include Google, rather than
just Netscape Search (about time too) and the "throbber" seems to be back in it's
rightful place, on the right hand side, rather than the top left hand corner.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.

No linux version, no use. Don't you think that 50+ million people downloaded fx and people are starting to ge the hint to make there pages gecko compatibal? There should not even be an IE option much less make it default.

There really should be a linux version, but if there isn't, be that way, i won't be helping/testing anything for that browser.

They really ought to make that the default.

I'll finally be able to swap out graphics from Qute and have the browser like my Firefox installation.

If they (AOL/NS) decide to release a CCK for Netscape 8.0 (unlikely but not impossible) I might just try and
knock together a custom version with that theme as the default instead of the (fugly) "Comet" theme . . .

(Don't expect a return of Club Netscape though!)

it's probably not too difficult to change that manually, it's just a repacking of comet.jar with the winscape files

Netscape Browser 8.0 is Coming Soon!(!!!)

Postby J-M » Wed 18 May, 2005 5:34 pm

From http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/ just a minute ago:

Netscape Browser 8.0 is Coming Soon!

Nothing else on that page, no link to download 8.0 Beta any more, no working Release Notes link, nothing. Just this text with a very big font in use.

especially Gecko/20050512. It seems final is based on Firefox 1.0.4.

Pu7o wrote:actually, from the looks of it, final will be on ff 1.0, because it says rv:1.7.5. The Gecko/XXX is the compilation date.

If Netscape 8 final is released in the state provided in nscpprod's UserAgent, it will be terribly out of date and open to many security vulnerabilities. Personally, I'd rather see the Netscape 8 release be delayed so Mercurial can sort this out. Also, it will be interesting to see if the installer blocks users from installing Netscape 8, even if they do not meet the exact hardware and software requirements.

I can't complain about my knowledge on the English language, but this comment I don't understand. Could you explain this for me or do I sound really stupid now.
My translation of that, (if it was directed to you,) it only says you were looking at wrong places.
It does not indicate a "yes" or "no".

Yeah, I look forward to the new third party themes and extensions. Though, I feel for the most part, this will be largely ignored from the Moz/Firefox community.

It mentions releasing a CCK on the new Netscape 8 homepage. They say they will release it "soon."

Where? Am I missing something? Which page is this new CCK mentioned on?
