Netscape 4.79 won't start

Postby bigmamou » Sat 21 May, 2005 11:36 pm

Hi,

I've searched the archives about the above problem and haven't anything that seems to fit exactly with the problem I'm having. I've run NS 4.79 for my email program for 5 years or so now (yes, I know it's obsolete but I like it and it does what I want it to do) and have run it with XP Pro for the last 3 years. Yesterday when I went to boot it up it loads the summary to only 23% and then disappears. It does this everytime I start it up. The browser however boots up and work just fine & the bookmarks boot up as well. I renamed the nsreg.dat file in WINDOWS and booted up Communicator but to no avail, it still does the same thing. Anybody have any ideas? I've got the user files backed up in case it all crashes. I'm thinking about bagging it entirely and downloading the latest version of NS - will I be able to import all of my folders from 4.79 along with all of the emails in my inbox (a WHOLE bunch!) and are there other pitfalls to doing this? I am ambivalent about doing so as I do like using it. Thanks for any help given.

Try creating a new Netscape profile and see if it helps.

Otherwise, I would suggest you try uninstall Netscape 4.79 and re-install Netscape 4.79 (or Netscape 4.80) if you don't want to move to Netscape 7 or 8 or Mozilla or Firefox.

Hope this helps.
