It's once again time for my famous Netscape Videos Questions. I have installed firefox 1.0.4, I have the winamp Plugins in the Plugins folder, I have downloaded the AOL media Pack (whatever it's called)...I have allowed the following to install software..nsvapp-prod-rr.stream.aol.com, nsvapp.netscape.com, addons.mozilla.org.... Still does not play. It will scroll the artist and title of the song, but will just stay black. the AOL logo wont even show up like it usually does. I checked previous postings before coming to you for help. I know Fulvio and Alice have discussed this and I read the previous postings and followed what was writtnen with no luck.
any help will be apppreciated.

Can you, please, give a link? I don't know where you are getting your problem, although I have pretty good idea. Is it at the Netscape website?
I, also, had problems, and it may have to do with the revamping of the website. It is not the Winamp plugin, which I am using now, but rather that stupid AOLMedia thing. I am going to try, and get back to you.

It is, indeed, the npmoxax.dll file, which was present in NS7.2. So, I went to the website  and saw that there was a plugin for FF1.0.3. Against all recommendations, I downloaded and installed the file. Nothing blew up, and music played.
You should see an ax notation after 1.0.4 in my user agent. Or not.

Try again, I had made two errors, which I was about to correct.
I had mozillahtml while it should have been mozilla.htm
I tested it, and it works.

Fulvio, I tried the link again and it works. Isn't Active X what causes all the problems in IE. If that's the case i can live without the videos. I tried what alice mentioned, I allowed pop ups from aol.music, but the songs did not work for me. as for Active X, i've heard so many negative things about it I'm not sure i would want to download a Active X plugin.

For what it's worth, the Mozilla ActiveX pre-compiled plugin is very limited in what it allows... basically using ActiveX for Windows Media Player (those limits are contained in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\activex.js file that is part of the Mozilla ActiveX Plugin installation). The only caveat would be the need to adjust your settings in the AdBlock extension, if you have it installed... See:

..and, the Netscape/AOL music links didn't used to require ActiveX, only the WinAmp plugin files (npwinamp.dll and npwinamp.xpt). I tried the same AOL music links above, that work in IE6 and Netscape 7.2, but they no longer play in Mozilla 1.7.8.

I got curious, so I removed the two WinAmp plugin files (npwinamp.dll and npwinamp.xpt) from my Mozilla Firefox\Plugins folder, and the AOL music links still played. So, AOL did change it's music site, most likely to use the Windows Media Player and ActiveX control, since I don't have the ActiveX plugin installed in Mozilla 1.7.8. (I tried installing the pre-compiled Mozilla 1.7 ActiveX plugin in Mozilla 1.7.8 but got multiple Plugin errors when I tried the AOL music site, so I removed it.)
Seems the old WinAmp plugins are history

Alice, I guess the new netscape browser would allow the videos to be played, If it's the default browser for their ISP, i'm sure it would have to work for those paying for the Netscape service. Just a thought. I really don't want to download Netscape 8 just for that.

The music video links at http://music.channel.aol.com/archive/main.adp work in the OLD Netscape 7.2 browser, which comes with the ActiveX plugin pre-installed. (I've confirmed that it IS the ActiveX control that is needed, by temporarily renaming npmozax.dll in the Firefox Plugins folder.)
Yes, the music videos do play in Netscape 8.01, but only if you have the mp.aol.com site (or mp.netscape.com as the case may be, for Netscape Music) configured to open with the Internet Explorer rendering engine, with ActiveX ENABLED. The music videos wouldn't play when I selected the Firefox rendering engine in Netscape 8.01 ... There is no Mozilla ActiveX Plugin available for Netscape 8.

How is Active X when it comes to security? My wife Pays bill and makes credit card purchases via the Internet. Does this Active X cause any security risk. That is my main concern.

In this case, it could be. ActiveX controls run just like Windows programs -- in that sense, they have access to your hard drive. They have access to your browser cache and saved junk. Therefore, they have access to your credit card numbers.
In addition, Internet Explorer itself has flaws that can allow it to read data being subitted -- no ActiveX control download required.

If you're asking about ActiveX in general, as used in Internet Explorer or within Netscape 8 when using the Trident plugin (Display as Internet Explorer feature) then Don addressed that.
If you are asking about the Mozilla ActiveX Plugin for Firefox 1.0 available for download at http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/plugin.htm#download then I mentioned before that the plugin is pre-configured to only work with the Windows Media Player activeX control, and that those limits are set in the activex.js file (If you are using AdBlock extension then the setting for OBJ-TABS must be disabled, as I mentioned before). Netscape 7.1 and Netscape 7.2 both come with the ActiveX plugin preinstalled and also limited to the Windows Media Player contol..... That's mentioned here:
