Postby DJGM » Thu 10 Mar, 2005 3:02 pm

Novell announced the April release of SUSE Linux 9.3, the next version of its consumer Linux software,
today at CeBIT. SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 will include a complete Linux operating system featuring
a complete set of desktop applications and home networking capabilities. It is pitched as a reliable
and secure alternative to Windows suitable for both experienced users and Linux newbies.

Most copies of SUSE Linux I've gotten in ther past, have either been as pre burned CD-R's (or DVD-ROM)
bought from private sellers on eBay.co.uk, or downloaded from unofficial FTP sites and/or via BitTorrent.

I've purchased SUSE 7.1 and 8.2 as boxed sets. My next boxed set will probably be SUSE 9.3.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

I am pleased that SuSE continues to support the older versions, including 8.2, as anything 9.1 and above really will not run well on my Pentium system. There appears to be additional enhancements in the 2.6 kernel that are not in the 2.4 kernel, which caused 9.1 to run like molasses.

I had to reformat and reinstall 9.0 on that system.

9.1 though, runs fine on my K6-2 and am thinking about purchasing 9.3 once released. I hope that 9.3 can be installed on top of 9.1 (as was the case with 9.0 installing over 8.2). I could not install 9.1 over 9.0, probably due to the 2.6 kernel included with 9.1.

The mixing of PC 66 and PC 100 memory may be the cause of the slowness of SuSE 9.1 on the Pentium, so I've ordered new PC 66 memory for it, if 9.0 runs noticably faster afterwards, then I'm purchasing 9.3 when it's released.

I've got SuSE Linux 9.3 now. :)

Works superbly with wireless networking and the inclusion of new stuff like OpenOffice.org 2.0 and Beagle make it all worth while :) Seems a bit faster than 9.2 as well.

Since 9.3 is only available in the Professional (full) version, can it be used to upgrade from 9.1 Personal?
