Tabbed browing in IE6

Postby Antony » Wed 08 Jun, 2005 7:52 pm

Microsoft is joining the trend, the ability of tabbed browsing will be available in IE 6, but you need MSN toolbar.

Weeks after promising tabs in its upcoming IE 7 release, Microsoft made the long-awaited browsing feature available for IE 6 through its MSN toolbar.

With the version of MSN Search Toolbar made available on Wednesday, IE 6 gains the ability to open numerous Web pages within a single window, each selectable by a small tab at the top of the window.

From what I can see, it looks like a small bit of good news for current IE users... But, the UI.

It looks more like Mozilla 0.9.5's early tab UI than any sort of powerful one. Of course, I can't judge, since I haven't installed/used it. But, I bet it lacks the functionality of Mozilla's tab UI, meaning it won't do what I like to do: autohide the tab bar if I only have one open, and press Ctrl-T to open a new window.

On a different note, I'd like to see what [sdt=6532]the people who didn't like tabs[/sdt] (and Mozilla for that matter) have to say about this. Watch -- they'll now agree that tabs are good.

Tabs are, usually, ok, as long not associated with NS8.x.
AOL Explorer has the right idea. You can save the Home Page, but not a Home group, making the Tabs less messy.
The only reason why I like to use Tabs, and save them as Home group, is to remind myself to have certain sites open
