because you folks always seem to know the answer...
I have a Sony Vaio PCG V505BL laptop. Almost 2 years old now - and trouble-free until last week.
I turned it on...and nothing happened. AC adapter has a green light on its plug, battery had full charge. The computer itself had NO lights on (3 lights on this model, power, battery charging, and hd). So you push the power button and nothing happens...no lights, no sound. Tried it with the battery in and then took it off and tried just using AC.
Would anyone like to suggest what might be wrong?

Does your laptop have a graphics card.

If so it could have something to do with your graphics card

A few possibilities:

Dead power convertor in the laptop

Dead Power Supply

Or, the laptop is just totally dead

Either way, it's too much to work out on the forum here, you need to take that laptop to a service technician to have it looked at professionally.

took it to a repair place (2 years old and way out of warranty) am now wondering how much to invest in fixing a laptop this old. (I travel alot so it has lived a hard life). (...and I really want to switch back to the Mac world anyhow...)
I'm waiting to hear what the diagnosis is...thanks for your replies.

just in case anyone else has the same problem. the powerboard was shot...the part designation on my repair invoice was PCG-672R (I don't think that's a part number though) it cost $289. Just thought that info might be able to help someone else.
