I'm trying to host an FTP server for myself and a small group of friends, but I need a free FTP server. does anyone know of any good ones? if not, does anyone know of any at all?

try FileZilla

Which operating system are you going to run the FTP server?

windows XP home. I could use fedora, but I'd rather use XP

I can understand using Windows for a server, but a Home edition?

At least get XP Pro...

Anyway if you're running windows, then my recommendation is FileZilla.
