HELP with annoying netscape mail issue....

Postby audiokid25 » Wed 27 Jul, 2005 5:06 pm

If I have mail in my unsent folder, ever time I open mail it asks me if I want to send unsent messages. Is there a way to turn this off? I have the do not send unsent box checked in offline/disk space in preferences. It still pops up with this message, and its annoying. Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum, audiokid25!

Open Netscape, and clear the Location Bar.
In the Location Bar field, type this: about:config

You don't say which Ver. of Netscape you run, so I'll give you the way to access this setting two ways:

If there is no "Filter" field:
Scroll down to this setting: mailnews.offline_sync_mail
Is the "Value" listed as true?

If so, then right click the setting
Select: Modify
Type in: false

Close the window.

If there IS a "Filter" field
Type in: mailnews.offline_sync_mail
If the "Value" is true, then Modify the Value to false

I also meant to add this:

Once you have solved your Problem, I strongly suggest that you move to a newer browser. Netscape 7 is obsolete, has serious security vulnerabilities and many bugs. I would recommend either:
Firefox 1.0.6 - a standalone browser
Thunderbird 1.0.6 - a standalone Mail Client and companion to Firefox
OR
Mozilla 1.7.10 - a suite which includes Mail & Newsgroups and Composer, for web authoring.

Checked those settings and they are as you suggested. Still the window insists on poping up everytime I start netscape mail.

I almost missed your reply, sorry! The only way you can permanently turn this action off, since the setting isn't working would be to disable Work Offline.

I will say on the old versions of Netscape, it was often necessary to enable a setting, then disable, and enable again. In fact I can remember some settings where this had to be done several times, so you might try doing so.

How do you go about disabling the work offline function? All settings are correct in the about:config and this window asking to send unsent mail is just plain annoying.

In Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Offline & Disk Space
Also select "Do not download messages for Offline Use", as well as the "Do not send..." preference. If it doesn't take the first time, then close Netscape, reopen, reset, close Netscape... etc.

I would suggest giving serious thought to moving to either Mozilla 1.7.11, or Firefox 1.0.6, and Thunderbird 1.0.6. The Netscape 7.2 browser has quite a few bugs in addition to some security vulnerabilities.
