IE7 Beta more resembles NS8 rather than Firefox

Contrary to what the author of this article states, I feel that Internet Explorer 7 Beta more closely resembles Netscape 8 rather than the most recent Firefox release.

Most notable in IE 7 Beta is its own version of NS8's Site Controls. Both browsers check the site you're visiting against its own list of phishing sites with their own sets of color-coded alarms. Whew!

However, IE7 is yet to replicate NS8's adavanced Multibar feature.

IE7.0 Beta 1 would even more closely resemble Netscape 8.x, if it also had dual rendering engine support,
and offered its users the chance to toggle between the IE/Trident and Mozilla/Gecko rendering engines.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

DJGM, pigs do fly :-)

I think there are other aspects people find IE 7.0 Beta that resembles Netscape 8 besides the dual rendering feature.

Like in Netscape 8.x, the reload button is also gone in IE 7 Beta. :o

Netscape 8.x hasn't actually got rid of the Reload button. They've just followed the example of Opera
and Safari, and amalgamated it with the Stop button, so it disappears briefly while a page is loading.

IE & vs Netscape

Postby richard mitnick » Thu 04 Aug, 2005 8:44 am

One of the coolest things in Netscape 8 are the passcards. Just click once if you use Fill and Submit, and Netscape does all the work.

I have mail2web set up for two different email addresses, so I have mail2web and mail2web1. Same with MyYahoo! which I use for RSS with two different lists of feeds.

Am I lazy? You bet!

No. I like Netscape 8's passcards as well.

So Microsoft is out copying user-interface features of Netscape 8? If so, this may turn out to be a blessing for Firefox in disguise, since in my opinion its user interface is one of the most unredeemable qualities of Netscape 8.

It is more convenient to keep the "Stop" and "Reload" buttons separate as they have been in most browsers for over ten years, and I have always found the concept of "site controls" to be unnecessary and complicated.

They have been combined during the Preview Release of Netscape Communicator.

I did indicate "most" browsers and not all.
