I have McAfee on this PC, and Norton on a laptop. You cannot have both, because as soon as you try to install the other one, it will request that the present one be uninstalled. It seems that AV programs share certain files.
So, I stick with McAfee 5.21, because as long as it is supported ,the updates are free. This is not the case of Norton (it came with the laptop).
I have been been very careful with my updates, antivirus as well as Windows critical updates, and using only Netscape or Opera, I am not as likely to be affected, or at least not affect others. But, I have a wild card, that is the free AV Grisoft, also known as AVG. It is smaller, and it does not have the weekly updates of the big ones, but, so far it has outperformed McAfee, when there were variants of the big baddies. I downloaded five attachments, which has SirCam or variants thereof. McAfee caught two out of five, while AVG detected all of them. I downloaded them into the quarantine folder, where they are encrypted, so it was a safe move. But I do not recommended.
So, at times I am using both McAfee and AVG, but usually AVG, which does not foul up the performance of the computer.
