Hi Hatewa

Hmmm, am confused. With quick launch disable and following the above steps would have cleared 3 files. With that done, going to http://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login ... dAimAuth=y and logging in would NOT issue a email. Confirmation via email implies you "Created" new username and or "Password". WHERE did you receive this email? That type of email must have an address "your ScreenName@netscape.net. Since you can not access your WEBmail via website location, are you also using Netscape WEBmail via the buildt in Netscape N7.1 email client program? To access N7.1 email client email, you would then had to use the new password or have updated the new screen name portion of your email address in Netscape email Accounts. Is the email you received using a new screen name or the same previous one. What did this email say? Somehow we do not seen to be on the same page.

EDIT --- New questions...
Who is your ISP? Are you using internet service provide by AOL or Compuserve or other. Do you use AOL or AIM Instant Messenger? Do they work? If AOL or Compuserve ISP provider, this may REQUIRE you to access WEBmail website via there browser program.

Webmail problem with Streamline

Postby Hatewa » Thu 02 Jan, 2003 2:06 pm

Dennis
I received the confirmation at my regular Netscape email address provided by my ISP,(Verizon), It has an entirely different ID and password.
I've had that email address for years, and in the recent past I have had no problems logging into Webmail.
This problem has only been around for about four days.
I did create a brand new user profile and have a confirmed Aim and Webmail ID. My problem is, after I log in to Webmail, I am not getting connected to the Webmail site and the attempt kills my browser when I click "Home".
Most of the time, at that point, I get the error message: "A network error occurred while Netscape was receiving data"".

Quick launch is currently disabled, but up until a few days ago, I have had no Webmail problems with it enabled.
I'm trying to think of anything that I might have downloaded lately that might have screwed things up, and the only thing I can remember, is downloading the Popupstopper. I also installed the "Ad blocker xpi" before I read the warning that it might cause problems.
I tried searching for Adblocker xpi to uninstall it but can't find it.

Webmail problem

Postby Hatewa » Thu 02 Jan, 2003 4:31 pm

Iv'e found two problems but I don't know if they are related to this issue.

1) Script: C:\windows\application data\mozilla\profiles\"name"\4mnz9b9g.slt\prefs.js
Line: 1
Character: 1
Error: invalid character
Code: 800a03f6
Source: Microsoft j script
Compilation error

2)Adobe Type Manager has altered Windows system files.
Module name:ATMSYS.DRV
Description Adobe Type Manager
Version: R v4.00-32S058G06NN
Product: Adobe Type Manager
Manufacturer: Adobe Systems Inc.
<Unknown> has altered Windows system files.
Module Name: Unknown
Module Name : INTERNAT.EXE
Description: Internat
Version: 4.80.3008.1
Product: Microsoft(R)Windows NT(R) Operating system
Manufacturer: Microsoft Corp.

I haven't the dingiest idea what to do about these problems but I am wondering if one or both could be related to my Webmail problem. I've searched and searched and these are the only abnormalities I could find.

Hi Hatewa

We may or may not have a problem, but first we must communicate the phrase Netscape WEBmail. It can get somewhat confusing.
1st.. Netscape WEBmail accessed from a website URL. Not from a email client. It use's your Netscape "Screen Name" and "Password" to access.
2nd.. Netscape 7.1 email program. Using the Mail and Newsgroup Account setting you can have MORE than one email account types. Many user have a SMTP/POP account setup through there ISP. If you have a email account that looks like this... your email@Verizon.net, this is an email service provided by your ISP. You can have more than one.
In addition you can setup a Netscape WEBmail account in this same email program. It is a "IMAP" type of mail server account. The COMMON rule to this email account and the Netscape WEBmail account you access from a website is... they are the same account. You MUST use the same Netscape "screen name" and "password" to gain access. You "confirmed" your Netscape WEBmail username/password by receving a email. This email can NOT be delivered to you in your email@Verizon.net account. It would have been delivered to your Netscape WEBmail account. This is where I am getting confused. You said... "I did create a brand new user profile and have a confirmed Aim and Webmail ID". Was the new profile done with Netscape closed via the "Managed Profiles" or was this at the Netscape WEBmail website? If this was done at the website, I think you CHANGED your "screen name / password. You would have received a "TIME STAMPED" email delivered to your Netscape WEBmail account that you MUST respond to in a stated period of time. If not, your "Screen name / password " change did NOT happen. If you are able to "Logon" to Aim, use the same logon at WEBmail website. I hope I did not get you more confused than myself. :D Post back

Webmail Problem

Postby Hatewa » Thu 02 Jan, 2003 4:50 pm

I am aware of all those diferences you mentioned. There was a point in the Manager where they asked for my Email address. I wrote in my "Mail Newsgroup" mail address and they simply sent the confirmation there. I have my Id and password for Aim and Webmail properly set up. I JUST CANNOT CONNECT!

I've found two abnormalities, but I don't know if they are related to this issue.

OK... So you use both views. N7.1 email client IS working and can retreive and send emails from Netscape WEBmail server files. When you travel to WEBmail website URL, input the same "screen name" and "password", it refuses entry. The 3 files that you cleared out should had cured this problem. You mentioned in an early post that N 4.78 and now IE can not enter the site. What window's file do all three share?????

New Profile or old profile, cookies or no cookies, empty cache or full, quick launch enabled or disabled, I cannot access Netscape Webmail from any where, at any time.

And to re-verify.... the same Netscape "Screen name and password"......
Allow successful logon to Aim / AOL Messenger?
Allow successful send/receive emails via N7.01 WEBmail account?
Deny's access to Netscape WEBmail URL website via N7.1, N4.78 and IE?
You can travel at will to any other website using any brower?
If ALL the above are true, I'm stumped. It screams of corrupt cookies or cache file problem. I don't want to repeat myself, this was process steps.. (this dumps retained info in Q/L)
Netscape browser closed, disable Quick Launch, open browser, delete/remove cookies, delete both cache files, close browser?

To re. . . re verify. . . .... the same Netscape "Screen name and password"......
Allow successful logon to Aim / AOL Messenger.
Allow successful send/receive emails via N7.01 Mail only, (not Webmail).
Deny's access to Netscape WEBmail URL website via N7.1, N4.78 and IE.

I think you should put "Client for Microsoft Networks" back into your network configuration.

You can get Network Neighborhood off your desktop with TweakUI.
The Windows "logon" box shouldn't always reappear unless you gave it a name and password the first time. TweakUI can rid you of that nuisance too.

See http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui

Yes, you're right, Terra. I recently reinstalled Windows and gave them the name and password.
Unfortunately, putting Client for M. W. back in, doesn't solve the problem of being unable to connect to Webmail after logging in. I'll look into the tweaking business, though that's turned out to be a rather minor annoyance compared to my current problem.
