Website Errors

Postby goGecko » Thu 07 Oct, 2004 10:57 pm

I was visiting the domain factcheck.org in Netscape 7.2 and I am unable to click on any of the links on the front page. When I do, I get a message stating that the links are of the type "octet/stream" and that I should save them to disk. I save them and they still do not open. Here is a direct link just for the record:
http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx@docID=272
I was also able to reproduce this problem in Communicator 4.x and 7.2 but not Internet Explorer. Their webmaster address is:
webmaster@FactCheck.org
If somone can verify, then both of us should send them an e-mail. Thanks!

What do you expect? .asp is a "Microsoft Active Server Page", as I found out from microsoft site. .aspx may even have active X, not sure. But I went to my file types associations, I found that there was none for .asp files. So, I did the good old right click Open with, on the downloaded file and there Mozilla, but no Netscape. I added Netscape to open that file type, and it is the default program for .asp files.
I had originally given a link, but I must have been in error, because it was an internal file. You can do the same without downloading the file, and it will open with the default application, which is Netscape7.2

Major editing done in Netscape7.2, although the message was originally composed in FF0.9.3.

The link you furnished also pops up the "opening article.aspx@docID=272" box, saying the file is of type application/octet-stream, but if I choose to open it with netscp.exe (or mozilla.exe if using that) then it opens as an html document from
Code: Select all
file:///C:/DOCUME~1/ALICE/LOCALS~1/TEMP/article.aspx@docID=272

(it also opens if I save the file to disk and rename as article.html)

IE opens the same link without problem.

I checked http://www.factcheck.org/ and all the links are now fixed, for example, the Cheney & Edwards Mangle Facts link now goes to http://www.factcheck.org/article272.html
