SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Thanks DJGM for starting up.

I moved a few threads in.

BTW, I don't think SillyDog701 will have an Opera Browser Archive in foreseeable future :-)g

Also, we always recommend using Netscape or Mozilla based browsers.

We'd all have to convince Antony first, to have an Opera archive. :D

There are already Opera archives (search for most of the filenames I mention), but nothing that I know of is complete.

BTW, op209e.exe is the filename for the earliest known English OR Winsock-compatible Opera version (op212e32.exe is the first Win32 version). operain.zip (I've also seen it as op200no.zip) is the earliest known Opera version, but it's not English (Norwegian) and it's not Winsock-compatible (it's a trial version included with GIGA Magazine).

Opera 2.09 is a lot more capable than something like Netscape 1.x, which barfs if a page sends its encoding.

Keep in mind, these old Opera versions are SHAREWARE. It's a TIME LIMITED TRIAL, until Opera 5.x. Also, Wine barfs all over Opera's registration implementation, and the registration file can't be opened by Opera 2.09.

It works fairly well on Windows XP, FWIW.

Try doing an FTP search for the filenames.

Hi,
Because it had no results which means it is not on any of their sites that they search.

Google would have found you two results for op209e.exe - a site listing filenames for old versions of Opera, and a SLOW site with the actual file (to view the site, you would have had to use the cache, but it does download fine).

op212e32.exe would have found you a lot of stuff...

I grabbed op200no.zip when I was writing that post, and it appears to be identical to operain.zip.

Sorry I forgot to post links...

The version of Opera that is hardest to find, but the most wanted is "Multitorg Opera 1.0b4". It is KNOWN to exist, as it did some browsing back in 1995 (google for that, and you'll see a few user-agent logs with that string from 1995).

I found a screenshot of Opera 1.0b4 http://www.igd.fhg.de/archive/1995_www95/proceedings/posters/31/pic3.gif

Those screenshots are the only screenshots of Multitorg Opera, BTW. Three screenshots, a short description of that old version, and old records in server logs from 1995 are the last remaining evidence of its existence.

I've even tried e-mailing Opera Software (making sure it went right to the necessary people), and got NOTHING, not even an autoresponse.

Don't be surprised by my UA flipping from Opera 7.5x Linux or Win, Netscape Communicator 4.8 Linux, Dillo 0.8.0, Mosaic 2.7b5 Linux, or Firefox 0.9 Win.
