From The iPod Observer,
Microsoft spokesman Tom Pilla on Tuesday confirmed with iPod Observer that his company initiated the creation of the iPod packaging parody video that was first reported last month. "It was an internal-only video clip commissioned by our packaging [team] to humorously highlight the challenges we have faced RE: packaging and to educate marketers here about the pitfalls of packaging/branding," he said via e-mail.

(...)

Mr. Pilla noted: "While MS did not release the video, it's natural to share funny things with friends. So while we didn't publicly share the video, it was shared with appropriate teams internally. We're happy to see others enjoy the laugh as well."

Two fatal flaws ... or maybe it's me being pedantic . . .

 They've spelt iPod as "I-pod"
 They've illustrated it with the 1st Gen iPod

Although, if it wasn't Apple, but Microsoft, that had created the iPod, it'd more than likely called the "XPod",
and the accompanying music jukebox software would probably be called "WinTunes", rather than iTunes!

Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Just a little bit pedantic.

I could easily see the possibility of the product being named "Xpod" rather than iPod, seeing that it'd fit perfectly with the Xbox. I'd bet that instead of WinTunes, though, there'd be a Windows Media Player driver written for the Xpod that would have 'special' features not currently present in WMP's Sync Manager.

I bet their long list of minimum requirements would include a 733MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and 300MB of hard drive space. Those are the minimum requirements on a Sound Blaster Live! card I have, though I can run the thing perfectly from a DOS boot diskette (meaning no hard drive), a 500MHz processor, and 64MB of RAM. (If you truly want my opinion, system requirements are overrated anyway.)

As for the design of the iPod itself, it most likely would've originally been black like the Xbox, and eventually a "2005" or "2006" edition would come out with the 360's white-grey color scheme. Instead of a click wheel, there'd probably have been a touch screen. And most importantly, instead of running some sort of firmware-based OS, it'd most likely run some form of Windows CE with some form of Pocket Media Player.

Other considerations

Don't forget that with it's incredible popularity it would require a special addition to Norton and McAfee to protect against viruses designed to cross from that version of CE to your PC. Virus protection for the pocket OS itself, and the XPod itself.

Other possibilities might include a very XBox 360 approach like two version for sale. The full version, with hard drive, software and maybe a smart media slot. The second would have no HD or software, just the smart media slot. However you can purchase the HD and software at your local Microsoft retailer.
