What is best Virus protection for Netscape 7.1 , win 98

Postby GramiOR » Mon 17 Jan, 2005 3:59 pm

I have Norton antivirus 2004 which is about to expire, but not too happy with it. Any recomendations? They want me to of course to renew and get 2005 copy, but am asking you all out there if there is something better? :?

NOD32 is a great virus-scanning application. I've been using it for a bit over a month now, and I can easily say that I'm quite happy with it. It has record detection speed, very low memory usage, and very good detection rates. It'll set you back $39.99, which is still less than Norton 2005. If you want something free, take a look at Grisoft AVG Free, another decent app.

BTW this is a Windows question, not an NS question, please move to Windows forum.

Does NOD32 require you to pay for it when you download it?

It's $39, by online order. IIRC they can send you a boxed version.
Interesting enough, if you don't mind de/reinstalling every month, keep using the trial edition.

That's nice. I'll do that by reinstalling the trial every month

That doesn't work. After your trial is over, it's over. You'd have to format and re-install every month to do that.

I stick with Norton SystemWorks (contains Norton anti-virus) which I get either free or for less than $20 after rebate. In fact, I stock up on them when they are on sale. Its cheaper to buy a new version than subscribe to their update service.

That's what I've been doing for the past three months, and it's been working, updates and all.

Hrmm.. it's odd that it would work, although that is clearly in violation of the NOD32 EULA.

It states in the EULA that one copy of the program can be used before purchase. That means, since NOD32 is updated almost every day, I'm not using the same copy when I reinstall in 30-day intervals, am I? Even if it isn't, I don't think I've stopped and read an EULA (besides the NPL for use in Donzilla) before.

I think it works like this: You are not using the same copy if you reinstall it with a different copy.
