Why doesn't NS 7 initiate a dialup connection

Postby easthorton » Wed 06 Nov, 2002 11:45 am

I have just installed NS7 and find it to be excellent after a few configuration tweaks. What puzzles me is that when I type a web address into the location bar, it doesn't initiate a dialup to my ISP. It works fine Mozilla 1.2b which dials up whenever an Internet connection is needed. Is it something that I haven't setup correctly? I am using Win XP HE.

Hi easthorton, and Welcome to the Forum!

I just read this workaround on the Netscape 7 Newsgroup:

How do I invoke the dial up dialogue box when using Microsoft XP? I
believe it can be done using the administration tools.

Autodial can be iffy in XP. Here are some things to try. If none works, post again with specifics of what you have already attempted...

XP Auto Dial Entries
Network Connections/Advanced/Dial-Up Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by
Location/Uncheck all locations and check off always ask me before auto
dialing.

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key. Note that AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain names (FQDN), and NetBIOS names.

That sounds about right. But ALWAYS remember to do a backup of all your
important data, before you attempt to edit any Windows Registry settings.
