Could it be that Winamp's death has been exaggerated? Witness this interesting article by Eric Caoili on Winamp.com:

Eric Caoili wrote:I'll go ahead and get this out of the way: No we weren't axed. We haven't even seen anyone with an axe. There was this one guy who came up to us to axe us a question, but that's about it. Much like Tupac Shakur and/or Jesus Christ, our deaths have been greatly exaggerated.

We're going to chalk this one off to one to a poorly-worded and vague news piece that got out of hand (No offense to Nate.). While yes, our team might be a bit lean at the moment, we aren't the starved, skeleton-thin relics we've been rumored to be.
[...]

Will Winamp continue to be developed in some way or another after all? I guess we'll wait and see.

Of course, it was exaggerated, particular once it goes to MozillaZine's AfterDark regulars...

In related news, I noticed that Winamp 5.06 was released...six days after this "Winamp is DEAD" thread was posted.

The Winamp Change Log wrote:Winamp 5.06:
* Fixed crashbug when clearing the playlist and then right clicking on the songticker
* Security bug fixes
* Lots of small bugfixes
* JTFE v0.96ff

Is Winamp entirely dead? I doubt it.

It has been said that the remaining Winamp devs will only be able to put out minor updates, such as
the aforementioned v5.06. It is unlikely that there'll be a Winamp 6.0, unless AOL have a change
of heart like they did with Netscape earlier this year. At this time, I somewhat doubt it . . .

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

May I ask, why is this topic still sticky, if Winamp 5.09 was released less then a week ago?
