Windows 8 app store plan leaked

Postby Antony » Tue 03 May, 2011 11:58 am

According to Windows 8 italia and Electronista, Windows 8 app store was found in numerous references in a code check. And it will be like the Mac App Store, the shop would have ratings, reviews, and developer feedback,

Microsoft's emphasis on having a single download on Windows Phone 7 and Xbox would carry over and make it more unique, letting users get the trial version of an app and unlocking it rather than forcing a second download.

Developers would have to include the usual descriptions, screen captures, and system requirements. In a break with the usual, the Windows store would require that apps tell users what specific hardware features they need to work, such as a GPS receiver or a webcam. Support links could also point to forums and not just e-mail.

Personally I don't see why Microsoft would want to start up an app store when the Windows ecosystem is already so well served by third party distribution channels and developers. It seems like an app store would only serve to limit the number of apps that "run on Windows" seeing as the Microsoft store would likely be non-comprehensive, and therefore exclude a number of programs that one could otherwise find with a descriptive Google search.
