Windows printing issue

Postby Edward » Fri 26 Mar, 2010 5:14 pm

I have an HP Deskjet D1420 connected to my desktop system. When printing something in Windows (Vista Home Premium), what should come out blue and/or red, comes out a light shade of purple. However if I boot the system into Linux and try to print the same thing with the same printer, the colors come out perfectly.

Could there be any explanation as to why it's printing the wrong colors in Windows??

Red and blue both draw from the color cartridge's magenta reservoir, which might be the "light shade of purple" you're referring to. Unless you get color errors on green or yellow as well, that would suggest to me something's up with the way magenta is handled.

Try the options for "print head alignment" and "nozzle check" (or similar, those were what Epson called them on my C62 a few years ago). I don't know how those functions work, but in the event they don't do anything hardware-side and just store alignment offset data on the PC, it might do something. Failing that, uninstall and reinstall the driver in hopes that it would clear out a bad file.

I always align them when I install a new cartridge. whether it is only one cartridge or both.

Cleaning the print heads also didn't correct the problem, the colors were still the same with Vista.

The version of the software installed is 8.0, but I found 9.0 on HP's web site. I am going to install that to see if the new version corrects the problem.
