Windows Vista, voice recognition demo

Postby Antony » Mon 31 Jul, 2006 9:57 am

Remember the famous Windows 98 demo? Microsoft demonstrated the then new feature - Plug and Play - to be introduced in Windows 98. (discussion)

Now, we have a new demo for the upcoming Windows Vista.

It seems Microsoft can't recognise "mom".

I tried the Vista voice recognition system just now, and my results are even better. I don't think it got along well with my accent, the same thing happens with those voice-automated phone services.

Did you ask the computer to say "s44" and it recognised "s44"?

BTW, how do I use the voice recognition system in Vista?

I don't think Vista understands this at all.

No, I asked the computer to say "This is a test of the Vista voice recognition system", like I said in that video. It outputted "s44".

It got your sample as "Pressing Home Key", "Pressing Insert Key", "Pasting", "Deleting", and ultimately outputted nothing. I didn't hear if there was any noise because I had a cable directly-connecting the headphone and microphone ports in order to get your voice recognized by the speech recognition app. You can activate it and try it yourself somewhere in Control Panel.

I am only hearing the audio portion of that video in WMP 11.

You need to have DivX 6 (codec) installed, it works well with QuickTime Player.

Do you have an MPEG-4 decoder? I use ffdshow, which handles just about every format I've heard of, but there are also other lighter packs like Xvid, which only does MPEG-4.

That's as expected, since, well you know, I don't speak English. :-D

Well, I noticed this message when I tried to set up the Vista Speech Recognition.

Obviously, everybody knows that Antony does not speak English, but he can still try.

Now, how do I get the internal microphone (iSight) working under Vista?
