Windows XP SP1 Support Has Officially Ended.

Postby DJGM » Tue 03 Oct, 2006 2:07 pm

10/10/2006 UPDATE to original message posted last week:

Support for Windows XP SP1 has officially comes to an end TODAY. To ensure your computer continues to get updates
and patches from Microsoft, if you haven't upgraded to SP2 yet, you should do so now, or as soon as you possibly can.

Original message:

An important reminder to anyone still running Windows XP with Service Pack 1. In precisely one week from now, Microsoft
is to officially end support for it. Which means, like the recent support expiry for Windows 98/Me, there'll be no further
security patches or updates for anyone who hasn't yet upgraded their Windows XP installation to Service Pack 2.

Stephen Parker for Neowin.net wrote:On October 10, 2006, Microsoft will end all public assisted support for Windows XP Service Pack1 (SP1).
After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates for
this retired service pack under the policies defined by the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy.

To enhance the security of your computer and to continue to receive updates for Windows XP, we
recommend you upgrade your computer, for free, to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

So if you have held off installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP so far, you need to get your skates on. Let's face it,
folks, XPSP2 was released over two years ago (August 2004) and Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is likely to be
released in the not too distant future, possibly not long after Windows Vista is finally unleashed.

End of support for Windows XP Service Pack 1.
