wrong home netscape directory

Postby jonah » Thu 07 Nov, 2002 7:24 am

I'm running netscape 4.78 on Redhat 7.1 and I'm experiencing some odd and annoying behavior. When I kick it (netscape) off from one of my programs it opens normally, but when I try to open it from a different program (same user) I get warnings like:
Cannot find /.netscape directory
Which makes sense because there is no /.netscape directory. That is, when I run it from the first program it looks at /home/username/.netscape, but from the second program it tries to access /.netscape. It still works, but with lots of annoying messages. Any idea what this could be? I know it could be a lot of things, but I'm running out of ideas, so I thought maybe someone had fixed something like this themselves.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Sincerely,
jonah

ps - The program executables are both in the same directory and are being run from the same directory, just in case that helps ya.

The folder /home/username/.netscape/ is where you'll find your profile
and settings directory for your installation of Netscape v4.78. Just open
up your /home/username directory in the Konqueror file browser. After
the /username, type /.netscape, and all the files and folders within will
be revealed. By default, when you're logged in as normal user, and not
as root, all /. directories are hidden, as they contain your user settings.
If you were to install Mozilla or Netscape 7.0, on your Linux system,
you'd find all your Mozilla/NS7.0 profiles and settings files and
folders in the directory: /home/username/.mozilla .
