www.netscape.com page Whose brainy idea was it ?

Postby Lorraine » Wed 26 Nov, 2003 11:58 pm

Whose brainy idea was it to put that curled corner ad, on http:// www.netscape.com page ?

I clicked "close" on the first one and another one appeared and wanted me to click. Well, I don't click on banners and I'm not about to start clicking on corner posts which incidently, are in my way.

I like netscape.com as a homepage, but I am not using it tonight or if they continue to use this type of advertising..

The site doesn't show such an ad right now, but if it is what I think it is, it's a new type of ad, similar to a pop-up, but it appears in the same window.

Normally, clicking such an ad will close it.

It popped up TWO for me just now. one in front and one behind the main window. These pop ups are THE main reason I won't even go to the site to register.

You might want to check your Preferences for Popup Windows, and see what is there. Mine is checked to block unrequested popups, however on the next window, all of the AOL-related sites were there, and I'm sure I had deleted them all previously...

It looks like none of you is using a NS7.01, 7.02 or 7.1. With any of them you can set the Popup Windows preferences allowed sites, you should see a list of preallowed, but no one is compelled to leave them in. If you remove them, you will not see any popups. I have not seen any in netscape.com or aol.com since . You have to face it, it is a form of advertisement, which, by the way AOL is opposed to. They have included popup blockers in their software, and, as I described, in Netscape as well, but the popup are left in, as irritants, I guess. In fact, one could remove all of them, leaving the Windows completely empty, like in Mozilla.
