chii07chobits - You said: "I can't erase the UpperFilters and LowerFilter it says error ...".

chii07chobits, if you are desperate, use an app like ERD Commander to boot and edit the registry

chii07chobits: No, I don't know why. There are two things to try, either separately, but together is fine too.
1. Boot up in Safe mode
2. As an administrator, check the Security permissions of
- C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator*\ntuser.dat and of ntuser.dat.log
-- *-or whatever the logon-id is that you are logged on as
You should see Full Control.
Also you should see that the Owner of:
ntuser.dat is Administrators, and of
ntuser.dat.log (a hidden file) is your logon-id.

Claydaman: Are you doing these drivers installations in Safe mode?
Since the sound and graphics drivers issues appear to be a separate matter, to continue this discussion you may open a new topic.

My CD-ROM is not recognized or is messed up

Postby COFFEE121858 » Thu 09 Nov, 2006 12:05 am

I have a Windows XP Home Edition and the cd-rom is not recognized :x so it tells me to put the cd in so it can redo some files, but when I got this computer it did not come with a cd to redo Windows XP :? , so what do I do now :( ? I did have it on here and all of a sudden now it's not there. I just used it last week.
Thanks,
Mattie

When the installer gives you the option to browse for the CD's files elsewhere, try giving it the path [tt]%SystemRoot%\ServicePackFiles\i386[/tt] instead of the CD. If that doesn't work, some HP/Compaq systems keep files from the installer CD stored on [tt]%SystemDrive%\i386[/tt], so try there as well.

This was driving me nuts. In my case there was only a LowerFilter in the registry. I deleted it and all is back to normal.

Additional Probs

Postby chris88 » Wed 27 Dec, 2006 7:48 am

I have the same problem as everyone else with the drives not appearing in My Computer and the driver appearing corrupted or missing in device manager (code 39)

In addition my computer's time and date now frequently resets itself to 00:00 1st Jan 2002 and in the Start Menu about 2/3 of my programs are highlighted as if I haven't been into them before.

Before I go editing my registry (which I'm quite scared of destroying further), has anyone else experienced similar problems/how could this be related to the drives?

Cheers,
Chris

Give it a shot

Postby Rosita » Thu 04 Jan, 2007 5:42 pm

I will be taking the advice i found on this message thread and hopefully my corrupt cd-rom drive will be up and running again. Since so many of you on here said it worked. I read in one post where it says that you may have to reinstall some audio files..does this mean like music i've downloaded? If that is the case, no problem at least i'll get my CD-rom working. But what i'm really most concerned is if any of my pictures will be affected? Any help will be appreciated. :D
