Fix works for Vista

Postby Hoiberg » Thu 04 Jan, 2007 6:01 pm

I didn't see anything regarding Vista and this issue, but I had this problem with Vista and it will not let you delete the cdrom.sys file and I was about to reinstall, but I tried deleting the registry keys and rebooted, I got my DVD drive back and I'm burning DVD's again.

Thanks!

corrupt cd-rom driver

Postby colt » Fri 05 Jan, 2007 8:20 pm

Wow...erdiko you are an answer to prayer!! Worked great. the registry only showed the "lower filters" and the "lower filters.bak", deleted them, rebooted and all was well. Many thanks and a prayer for you tonight.

It worked for me...sorta'

Postby Rosita » Fri 05 Jan, 2007 9:21 pm

Well....I did everything that was instructed to do about deleting the lower, the upper, the .bak lower and upper. When i rebooted...YIPPEEE, i saw my CD drive, only thing is that my CD Drive is a CD-RW, but it won't work as such anymore, luckily for me i have an external CD-RW. Also another thing was that when i connected the external CD-RW it did detect it (before it would not) but also as only a CD-Rom...wierd. So i had to install the external CD-RW software, now i can BURN cd's. Anywho if anyone can help me out as to why this happened, i'd appreciate it.

Thanks, too, but Media Player doesn't Record to DVD now

Postby aj_franklin » Tue 30 Jan, 2007 11:55 pm

The Regedit worked at restoring windows ability to see the drives, but Media Player won't recognize the CD or DVD Burner...I can't burn TV programs to DVD to watch later.

The "value data" remains blank in both filters. Any help would be appreciated. :?

Had same problem

Postby miami_mike » Mon 12 Feb, 2007 7:15 pm

As the original post from 2005. If you have that problem and you have Nero installed ( Nero's InCD), try deleting InCD. It worked for me and both my DVD and CD drive appeared again after deleting that Nero program.

I have managed a work-around

Postby aj_franklin » Tue 13 Feb, 2007 1:36 pm

Although I can't use Media Center to burn DVDs, I can use Roxio Lite. So now I get a TV show recorded in Media Center and then use Roxio to burn the DVD. Still can't figure out how to get it back the way it should be with Media Center burning the DVDs...short of a complete re-install of the OS.

sounds like it works with xp

Postby blake_lachlan » Tue 20 Feb, 2007 8:41 am

Sounds like the fix works with xp but i have a different problem, i was having problems with remote logging in and installed a program called regcure, this program would fix my problem but only for a day, after running it a few times over the week regcure also removed all the fonts " i thought ok i don't understand why but ok" so i reimported all the fonts the next day after running it, regcure removed all my command files and the server would not reboot. i had to do a full repair of windows. then after the repiar i also had to reinstall all my programs so they would work again. ok thats fine "but how with no cd-rom" i had to map a drive from a working pc on the network and install everything all over again. now eveything is working grate but i still have no cd-rom. i am using windows 2003 server r2 standard and the computer is only 2 months old. does this fix work for me as well. i looked the sting up but UpperFilters and so on are not there. do i remove this string compleatly and search the hole registy for UpperFilters and so on or not. i need help with this asap.

also if it is the case of files missing in my system32 or something directory what files do i have to find to replace them. i just tried exporting the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} string from an xp pro computer and importing it to my windows 2003 registry but now the server is doing a raid sync and i have to wait for it to finish before i can reboot and find out if it worked. i'll keep you posted

Like a couple of others here, I had to join to offer a big hat tip to Erdiko for his solution to waking XP up to recognize my missing DVD/CD issue.
