Apple upgrades its Xserve G5 (1U rack) optimised server to deliver dual 64-bit 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 processors with over 35 gigaflops of processing power per system. This new Xserve G5 is the world's fastest front side 1U server system bus, running at up to 1.15 GHz, providing up to 9.2 GBps of bandwidth per processor and up to three 400GB drives, achieving a groundbreaking 1.2TB of hot-plug storage.

Price starting at US$2999. Also available is the 400GB Serial ATA hard disk storage.

Xsan ships

Designed for high power user, Xsan now ships.

A 64-bit cluster file system for Mac OS X, Xsan lets you share files and volumes up to 16TB in size on a high-speed Fibre Channel network. Up to 64 systems on the storage area network (SAN) can read and write to shared storage simultaneously, unlike other solutions which gate access at the volume level.

Price started at US$999 per node.

Xserve is design for power users, usually organisations. But the price is good.
