Am I correct that this is for GNU/Linux distros and any new OS that strikes you?

Indeed. Any new Linux distros, or UNIX flavours that I obtain, get put on that PC.

Oh, and the occasional preview version of Microsoft Windows Longhorn . . . !

My old Mac (to be dumped)
PowerMac G4 400MHz (PCI)
512MB RAM
2 x 40GB HDD
CD-RW

My new Mac,
No, it's not a G5, but it's the fastest and most powerful PowerMac G4(*) available and the most powerful system to run Virtual PC 6 for Mac.
Image
(I guess I don't need to mention the spec, the screenshot tells all)
[list][*]PowerMac G4 Dual 1.42GHz
the model you can't get it now, it's has been replaced by G5 in July 2003, the current PowerMac G4 line from Apple is dual 1.25GHz which can boot into OS 9
Mine can't boot into OS 9, but can run “Mac OS X Classic Environmentâ€

In those benchmarks they fail to include a Dual 1.8Ghz G5, surely this would outperform a dual 1.42Ghz G4, but the G4 should be faster than 1.6Ghz G5 (Not dual).

The claim I made was "the fastest and most powerful PowerMac G4".

To be dumped? Wouldn't it better to sell it, or perhaps even give it away . . . ?
