the frame of the Acer display looks a bit unusual to me. But I am sure you enjoy the 24-inch display.

My iMac (late 2006 model) can only take up to 3GB RAM. I wish mine could take more. Perhaps my next Mac should be a Mac Pro.

Nope. I had Media Player Classic open which for some reason changes the theme to Vista Basic temporarily if I re-size the video window. I use, and definitely prefer, the Vista Aero theme.

I don't have that problem on my laptop -- oh yeah, I got a new laptop for my birthday a month ago.

Acer Aspire 5315 -- Celeron 560 2.13Ghz, 2GB DDR2, 120GB SATA, 15.4" WXGA LCD, up to 384MB (total) Intel x3100 GFX, Vista Home Premium (upgraded from Basic). Only get 2 hours battery, though. :cry:

Just got a new computer for $1 at a garage sale. The computer is a custom build and the hardware seems to be vintage late 1990s.

The specs are:
Intel Celeron 400 MHz
256 MB RAM
6 GB Hard Drive
40X CD-ROM

Windows XP Pro came installed on the hard drive, but at this point I'm not sure whether I will keep Windows XP or put something else on it.

I'll get pictures posted later and post them in the appropriate thread.

Over the weekend, I got two computers for (absolutely no cost) $0!

Unfortunately, those two Power Mac G4s are clearly outdated or "obsoleted". They were both from early 2000s.
According to the label on the back, Power Mac G4 466MHz and Power Mac G4 dual 1.42GHz.

I haven't tried to power them up yet.

I'll get the picture posted later and post it in the appropriate thread.

My most recent gadget acquisition is a refurbished HP Compaq DC7700 small form factor PC I bought
online from Speedie Computers in Birmingham. It has a 1.86Ghz Intel Core2Duo CPU, Intel GMA950
onboard graphics chip, 1GB DDR2 RAM and a 160GB SATA hard drive.

Although it is somewhat different from what I'd ordered and expected to get, which was the DC7600
model with 3Ghz Intel P4 CPU, 512MB RAM, and only 40GB HDD, although the Gfx chip is the same.

It was however, a rather pleasant surprise to get a better spec machine for no extra cost.

Within the next couple of weeks, I intend to upgrade the RAM to 2 or 3GB, and upgrade the Gfx from
the somewhat mediocre Intel GMA950, to an ATi Radeon HD4350 low profile PCI-Express Gfx card.

The sole purpose of this machine is as a mainly Linux Mint based media centre system to go with
the 32 inch Sony KDL32EX403 HD1080 LCD TV I mentioned earlier in the thread, for networked
playback of multimedia content stored on the HDD of my main computer upstairs.

I also have Windows XP installed for accessing downloads from BBC iPlayer, and for using a program
called TVU Player for foreign TV channels. The primary OS in use on the machine is Linux Mint 9.

Well, it costs much less than half of that price tag you quoted. It is in fact cheaper than the base model Mac mini (non-Server model, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 320GB). How? Through a good friend of mine, it is one of those price mistake models Apple honoured.
Therefore, it is very cheap.
