Interesting on Comcast beanboy.

I am on OptimumOnline from Cablevision. My spped tests are generally in the 14Mbps area on wired and 9Mbps on wireless.

A Cablevision employee who lives wher he has Comcast said to me that on a wire he only has about 5Mbps.

Nice, they did not tell me that they had 500GB Bundle.

Well, I don't download that much yet.

They're very new, from just this week in fact. You can get the details here. Basically $159 gets you 500GB ADSL/Cable and the home phone with pretty much all your calls included along with a T-Box or T-Hub.

Actually, I called them to request the change. The $159 bundle (now 500GB) is virtually the same as I currently pay for my 200GB bundle. Hopefully they will change my bundle soon.

And they now charge an extra $2 for sending paper bill, I can't believe that!

BTW, you can save $11 per month by deselecting the T-Box or T-Hub, if you want to.

And thank you, I know I shall follow you ;-)

It shouldn't take them too long. It was less than two days for me changing from a standalone 200GB cable plan to the new bundle. You can save the $11, but I wanted the T-Box anyway, so I elected to pay for it over the 24 months. I'm very happy to have a massive 500GB of downloads to use with the awesome speed the 30Mbit cable connection provides.

I don't really have a problem with them charging for a paper bill either. With millions of customers electronic billing can cut unnecessary use of paper and help the environment. Personally I've had the electronic billing the entire time I've been with Telstra.

Due to the recent weather here, the cable's out and I'm stuck on dial-up for a few days...

Image

Which is made worse by the fact that the terrible phone line quality, also due to the weather, is dropping me down to just 30.6kbps. :(

Ugh. That is terrible. :( I'm fortunate that I can tether my phone to my computer and use the 3G connection if the cable is ever down. The speed isn't anywhere near 30Mbps, but it's between 1 -> 4Mbps on average, which is perfectly useable.

When I first moved in here I used dialup on an old G3 iMac, that was pure torture. I know what you are suffering for sure.

The new lines are DOCSIS 3-capable! :D Compared to the 4m/768k speeds we had before, they're a welcome improvement. Our cable modem is a rental, so they took back the old one and gave us a DOCSIS 3 modem.

Don't worry, you still have the ultrafast grade A+ connection with super-low ping times, that's faster than 95% of other Australians' connections.

Actually not.

According to my post dated December 2010,

It was only "Grade A", and the ISP was rated 2 1/2 stars. Whereas your ISP is rated 3 stars.

What you forgot about is the post you made more recently than that one:

Of course, if you're okay with using whichever result is slowest (as you tried to do), we can keep going with my 30.6k figure. :)
