Q1. What is the difference between (full), (base), (pro) and what is stand-alone?

For version 4.xx, Netscape Communicator has following different packages.
(base) = Base Install, includes Navigator (browser), Messenger (e-mail and news reader) with basic multimedia plug-ins. For version 4.0 to 4.08, it includes Netscape Navigator, Messenger, Composer, Collabra, Netcaster, Conference, and AOL Instant Messenger; For version 4.5 and above, Messenger and Collabra are combined to Messenger, also Netcaster and Conference are removed from distribution.
(full) = Complete Install, includes all components from Base Install and extra multimedia applications (e.g. WinAmp, RealPlayer)
(pro) = Professional Edition, also called Enterprise with Calendar, obviously from the name, you got extra component - Calendar. It includes all components in Complete Install plus Netscape Calendar, AutoAdmin, and IBM Host On-Demand. Note: Professional Edition is discontinued after Netscape 4.7, if you require Netscape Calender client, it is available from iPlanet.
(alone) = Navigator Stand-alone browser, just the web browser, no e-mail clients, news reader etc. However, Netcaster (available up to version 4.08) is still included (can select not to install).

For version 3.0x, 2.0x Netscape Navigator includes mail function with the browser (called Netscape Mail) and has following different packages.
(std) = Standard Edition, no plug-ins
(full) = was called Professional Edition, with plug-ins
Gold: same as others, come with HTML page editor and page publishing function.

A detailed list of components of different distribution is available from Cherokee's Netscape Solution site.

Q2.
What is the difference between Navigator and Communicator?

In version 4.xx, Communicator is a name of suite, and Navigator is the main browser, Messenger is the e-mail and newsgroups reader,... etc. Just like Microsoft Office is the suite, and Word is one of its application.
In version 3.0x and 2.0x, Navigator is simply the product name, and in fact it is the main browser. (Netscape Mail is included in Navigator).
In version 6, the company drop the name Communicator for the suite, and now the suite is called "Netscape 6", where Navigator is still the component does the same old day's (and better) job.

Q3.
Which version I should download?

Basic guideline is to get the latest release of the major version you are after. Now which version you should get? It is recommended that you get the later one if your OS and hardware can support it. Netscape 6 is still not recommended as a safe release. You might also want to check Netscape Version Guide for more information about each different release of Netscapes.

Q4.
How do I download file to floppy (diskette)?

The short answer, No, you can't. Recent releases of Netscape are all larger than 1.44MB, unless you have superdisk or zip driver.
However, you can do that with third party software. You still need to download to your HD (harddrive) first, then separate the (one) large file into many small files. Programmes such as WinZip, WinAce(recommended) or other major compression tools would provide this feature (called multi-volume or disk spanning). For more detail about how to use those, check the Help section provided by the software.

Q5.
I have problem downloading large files, what could I do?

To solve downloading large files, my recommendation is using a downloading manager for all your downloads especially those large files, like Go!Zilla for Windows 9x/NT, Monica for Macintosh, Caitoo for Linux. You can also purchase Netscape CD directly from Netscape Corporation.Go!Zilla

Q7.
Do you have Microsoft Internet Explorer archive like this for Netscape?

Sorry, I don't, and in fact you cannot have more than one version of Microsoft Internet Explorer installed in a single OS.
In longer words, because IE is integrated into Windows operating system, and it is not permitted to have different version of it installed in a single OS, with exception of MSIE2.x (available from Plus! pack). Also due to the nature of MSIE, it is harder to have a nice archived files organised. If you do really want to find archived version, you can try browser archive. (note, they don't have all versions, but a very variety of collection of browsers.)
