Fixing Netscape 8.1's Broken 'Add RSS Feed'

A patch to Netscape 8.1's broken “Add RSS Feed” bug that frustrated some users.

This article and the patch file will help you solve some Netscape 8.1's annoying features.

This fix will correct following three problems
  • unable to add RSS Feeds
  • unable to disable the new Back Button of Death 'feature' (BBoD)
  • unable to resize the Options window.

To fix those problems,
  1. download ns81_browser.jar file (save it as .jar file, do not open it.)
  2. Exit Netscape 8.1
  3. Back up the original Netscape 8.1 browser.jar file.
(it is located in C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape Browser\chrome folder)
  4. rename the downloaded file to browser.jar, and replace it with the original file.

After applying the patch, you can do things such as:
Add RSS Feeds via the orange RSS widget icon in the URL Window for sites that support them.
a new tab won't get closed if you click the "Back" button.
The options window can now be resized.
